Atlantic Fungi Co-operative is a workers' co-op specializing in the cultivation, education & supply of Gourmet Mushrooms & Mushroom Products. AFC has been incubated at Re-Growth and we are working together with a collective of other passionate local mushroom growers to grow out of Re-Growth's HQ to further our mission to help find new and better ways for our food system to work.
Our mission includes how we operate our business and share profits for the greater good and how we continue to support our environmental impact goals. So this is why we have decided to share our farm with a wider community because by co-operating with other local growers we can bring better food to more local people faster.
We are working to solve for a number of challenges that small local farmers encounter: availability of space for farming, consistency of supply and demand, unpredictable timing of harvests, the relative cost of administrative and sales and marketing overheads, low margins and the need to invest in expensive equipment and facilities.
By working in a co-operative we can share our dreams, costs and risks and help each other in times of scarcity and abundance, we can be more competitive and responsive to customer demands and we can make sure that commercial pressures don't undermine our commitment to sustainable production. Agriculture currently generates 10% of the UK’s carbon emissions so if we ever hope to get to net zero we need radical change.
AFC is run by the workers for the benefit of those workers and means we can run more efficiently, fairly, and sustainably. We can co-operate and bring the economies of scale that allow us to reach a greater proportion of local people with a better food system.
Re-Growth is about more than mushrooms, we are about finding new ways to create the circular economy we need and we hope the Atlantic Fungi Co-operative will be a big part of that.
Re-Growth is passionate about growing ethical produce with minimal environmental impact. We grow great tasting, high quality, certified organic oyster mushrooms and other mushroom varieties. We are proudly Cornish and are based at Poundstock just miles from the Coast near Bude. As seen on Rick Stein's Cornwall, on BBC 2, we grow mushrooms as part of the Atlantic Fungi Co-operative in our orchard fruiting chambers including: King Oysters, Lion's Mane, Shiitake and Organic Oyster mushrooms. We also love to share our knowledge by developing a whole new generation of mushroom growers through our workshop series.
Whilst not all of our mushrooms can be produced in line with Soil Association Organic requirements, our Oyster and Shiitake Mushrooms can be and we are proud that they are Soil Association Certified Organic. We use our decades of experience in Organic Farming and Innovative Growing Techniques to help reverse the effects of modern farming on the environment. We grow using waste sawdust from the furniture industry and unlike the majority of producers, we grow Oyster mushrooms in reusable containers rather than non-recyclable single use plastic mushroom bags.
Atlantic Fungi Cooperative runs Mushroom Growing Workshops at our Re-Growth HQ in Poundstock in North Cornwall and at locations across the Southwest through our 'free range' workshop options. We have held workshops for a number of our customers, Community groups and Universities. We teach people how to grow their own oyster mushrooms focusing on Organic, sustainable production techniques. Find out more about the latest dates and offerings through our Eventbrite page or by emailing us at Atlantic Fungi Coop .

Re-Growth's Founder, Robbie Pearce has worked on conventional and organic farms in the UK and Asia for the past 30 years. He is considered an innovator in experimental growing and has run a number of award winning landscaping businesses. Most recently he was co-founder of a highly successful Urban Farming and Social Enterprise in Singapore; Edible Garden City which designs and runs food gardens in hotels, restaurants, schools and public spaces and champions green education. They run farming workshops for companies and schools, and create and run farming curriculum to seed an interest for growing organically.
We're committed campaigners for the environment working closely with a number of organisations to educate and inspire sustainable practices. We regularly donate our mushrooms to the Bude Community Larder. We believe in growing a better world the right way, creating an inclusive society and a better planet for all.
